Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has called on the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over its financial dealings and allegations of wrongdoing.
In a Facebook post on October 25, 2026, the MP questioned the association’s performance despite the substantial financial support it receives from the government and international football organisations.
He argued that Ghanaian musicians, including Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy and Samini, had achieved significant success in their respective careers without government funding or support from international organisations.
According to A-Plus, the achievements of these musicians raise questions about the GFA’s ability to deliver results despite the resources available to it.
“Look at what Shatta Wale (Shatta Movement) and his Shatta Movement, as well as Sarkodie, have achieved this year without government funding or backing from international organisations. Stonebwoy and Samini are next in line to make their mark,” he wrote.
He contrasted the musicians’ achievements with what he described as the GFA’s disappointing record, citing scandals, alleged favouritism in Black Stars selections, questionable visa arrangements and concerns about financial mismanagement.
The MP also expressed frustration over what he considers the association’s repeated failures to meet the expectations of Ghanaian football fans.
A-Plus directly addressed GFA President Kurt Okraku, whom he described as a friend he holds in high regard, while questioning his leadership of the association.
He challenged Okraku to reflect on the disparity between the achievements of the musicians and the performance of the football governing body, which he said had access to considerable financial resources.
“Kurt, you are my friend, and I hold you in high regard. But tell me, how do you feel watching these individuals achieve remarkable success with limited institutional support while you and your organisation, despite the enormous resources at your disposal, continue to fail woefully?” he asked.
The MP’s call for an investigation centres on the need for greater accountability in the management of resources allocated to Ghanaian football.
He urged EOCO to subject the GFA’s financial dealings to rigorous, independent scrutiny and investigate any credible evidence of wrongdoing.
“The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) must urgently turn its attention to the GFA, subject its financial dealings to rigorous independent scrutiny and investigate any credible evidence of wrongdoing,” he stated.
A-Plus further stressed that the association must demonstrate measurable results to justify the substantial investment in the country’s football sector.
“Ghanaian football does not lack talent, passion or resources. What it desperately needs is transparency, responsible leadership and measurable results that justify the enormous public investment,” he wrote.
