For the second consecutive time, the Ministry of Roads and Highways has won the Public Sector PR Organisation of the Year award at the IPR Ghana Excellence Awards.
The award, organised by the Institute of Public Relations (IPR) Ghana, recognises the Ministry’s strong commitment to transparent communication, stakeholder engagement, and innovative public relations practice.
Held in Koforidua in the Eastern Region, the award is given to a public institution that shows outstanding leadership in communication, uses best practices in public relations, and builds public trust in its work.
IPR Ghana said the Ministry distinguished itself through its continued efforts to make information on road infrastructure development more accessible, timely, and useful to all Ghanaians. The Institute added that winning the award back-to-back reflects the strategic and professional work of the Ministry’s Public Relations Unit.
Leadership and Transformation
The Ministry’s public relations transformation over the past five years was led by Alhaji Nasir Ahmad Yartey, APR, who until recently served as the Head of Public Relations at the Ministry.
Alhaji Yartey is a distinguished public relations practitioner and development communication professional with more than 17 years of experience in Ghana’s public sector.
Under his leadership, the Ministry used communication as a key tool to keep Ghanaians informed about the delivery of critical road projects across the country. The Public Relations Unit strengthened proactive media engagements, community outreach programmes, and relationships with key stakeholders.
These efforts have helped improve public understanding of ongoing projects, made project timelines clearer, and increased confidence in the Ministry’s work.
Digital Communication and Public Engagement
The Ministry also introduced digital communication tools to bring road development updates closer to citizens. These included improved social media reporting, visual storytelling on national infrastructure progress, and stronger crisis communication systems to respond quickly and accurately to public concerns.
The Ministry’s growing reputation in public-sector communication is reflected in its recognition at previous industry awards, including the “Best Social Media PR Unit” award at the 2022 Government PROs Excellence Awards, where Nasir Ahmad Yartey, APR was also recognised as second runner-up PRO of the Year.
Building on these strong foundations, the Ministry of Roads and Highways remains committed to sustaining its communication reforms, deepening engagement with citizens, and delivering safe, resilient, and modern road infrastructure for national development.
The IPR Ghana Excellence Awards is the highest recognition for communication professionals and institutions in Ghana. It celebrates organisations and individuals that demonstrate outstanding performance, accountability, and innovation in public relations practice.
