The Dambai Circuit Court has remanded four men into police custody over a riot at Dwabrem in Worawora, in the Oti Region.
They four, Kwame Aboagye Ahenkroa, 55; Prince Asante, 27; Daniel Wiafe, 20; and Kwabena Nsimbo, 22, were remanded on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. They will appear in court again on November 17, 2026.
According to the Oti Regional Police Command, the disturbances happened on October 24 as tensions rose over the start of rites for the Akwantutenten Festival.
The tension was reportedly sparked by claims that a High Court injunction had been obtained to stop the celebration. Vehicle tyres were burned and there were other acts of violence. Police who went to the scene put out the fire and restored order.
Two days later, on October 26, the Oti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) met representatives of the families involved in the dispute.
All parties were told to take their grievances to the appropriate courts and Houses of Chiefs, stressing that the chieftaincy dispute must be settled by lawful means.
In a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police John Nchor, the Command’s Public Affairs Officer, police urged all parties to stay calm, show restraint and respect lawful processes to keep the peace in Worawora.
