Ghanaian reggae and dancehall legend Samini has firmly stated that he will not tolerate online disrespect, explaining his deliberate decision to stay away from interactive social media platforms like X Spaces (formerly Twitter Spaces) and TikTok Live.
The veteran musician made these remarks during the media launch of the upcoming Samini Xperience 2026 (Dansoman Edition) on Friday, October 16, 2026. As he prepares to bring his signature concert back to his home community for the festive season, Samini used the platform to address the changing dynamics of fan-celebrity interactions in the digital era.
    Protecting a “Heartfelt Brand”
According to Samini, the unrestricted nature of live audio and video streaming platforms has created an environment where public figures are easily provoked. He argued that the barrier of a smartphone screen emboldens users to overstep the boundaries of reasonable criticism, often turning to blatant personal insults.
“For things like Twitter Space and TikTok Live, whenever you’re live, some boy in some corner now has the opportunity to say to you whatever they want to say to you,” Samini explained passionately. “And they go overboard and say things to you that, if you’re not careful as a human being, you get derailed, and you say things that are gonna eventually go detrimental to your heartfelt brand.”
For Samini, safeguard-checking his mental peace and his multi-decade professional reputation is far more crucial than chasing viral metrics or participating in every trending online debate.
    The Shift in Celebrity Culture
Reflecting on the evolution of the Ghanaian music industry, the Linda hitmaker recalled an era when interacting with a celebrity required a level of investment and physical presence. In the past, fans primarily paid to watch their favorite artistes perform at concerts, which fostered mutual respect and made direct insults highly uncommon.
In contrast, modern social media grants instantaneous, democratic access to public figures regardless of a user’s location or standing. Samini expressed concern that this lack of boundaries has led some netizens to believe they can address established icons without courtesy. While he handles standard back-and-forth interactions on his main X timeline himself, he has drawn a hard line against joining live panels where he could be blindsided by trolls.
    A Growing Industry Trend
Samini’s critique hits on a broader friction point between Ghanaian creatives and internet trolls. Just days prior, contemporary musician Mr Drew clashed aggressively with a user during an X Space, resulting in mutual insults and subsequent public backlash. Samini’s proactive boundary-setting highlights a deliberate choice to prevent similar public relations pitfalls.
However, the dancehall icon clarified that he isn’t completely locking out digital engagement. Rather, he is exercising strict control over how and where he connects with the public. As he focuses on the rollout of the Samini Xperience Concert slated for December 2026, Samini is proving that his status as a pillar of the stage remains unshaken by online trends.

I’ll not come on your Twitter space and TikTok live, the boys always want to disrespect you – Samini passionately says at the launch of Samini Xperience https://t.co/2iKt4p3ba9
