Police in Tamale have apprehended four friends in possession of 142 slabs of suspected indian hemp known locally as wee.

The suspects allegedly offered a GH¢50,000 bribe to the police, but the officers rejected it and went ahead and arrested them.

The arrest, MyNewsGh.com gathered from the Northern Regional Police Command, was through an intelligence-led operation as part of efforts to rid the ancient city of the drug trade

Chief Inspector Abu Isahaku, who led the operation, said it took place on Thursday, October 15, 2026, after officers intercepted a mini commercial bus travelling from Bimbilla to Tamale.

After thorough checks, officials found the suspected contraband goods concealed in four Ghana Must Go bags intended for an undisclosed destination.

The driver,  Alhassan Zeblim, 46; tricycle rider Ibrahim Yussif, 34; his brother, Bawa Yussif, 56; and the alleged owner of the consignment, Mohammed Haruna, have since been arrested

All four suspects and the goods have been handed over to the Regional Drugs Law Enforcement Unit for further investigation.
