A man identified as Ottu Acheampong has been arrested at the Nsuta Circuit Court for allegedly impersonating a lawyer and collecting money from people under the pretext of handling their legal cases.
Two court prosecutors reportedly arrested Acheampong on Friday, October 16, 2026, after he allegedly took money from clients without delivering on his promises.
This is not the first time such a case has occurred. In June 2019, police arrested a 45-year-old man identified as Justice Nhyira for allegedly posing as a lawyer and collecting GHC5,000 from a family involved in a land dispute.
According to reports, Nhyira promised to help the family with its case but failed to accompany them to court after they became suspicious of his activities. He reportedly admitted during police questioning that he was not a lawyer. Police later granted him bail of Ghc6,000 with two sureties.
Also, in February 2020, another suspected fake lawyer, identified as Iddrisu Yahaya, was arrested in Techiman after allegedly collecting Ghc25,000 from four accused persons for legal representation.
Reports said Yahaya appeared at the Techiman Circuit Court to represent the accused persons in a criminal case. Concerns about his conduct and knowledge of legal terminology reportedly led to questions about his qualifications.
He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of falsely presenting himself as a lawyer.
