The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has highlighted progress in the country’s artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) gold sector, with exports reaching US$11.6 billion between January 1 and October 20, 2026.

Speaking at the Mining in Motion Conference on Tuesday, October 20, Sammy Gyamfi said GoldBod had aggregated and exported 85.4 tonnes of ASM gold within the period, surpassing large-scale gold exports, which stood at 76 tonnes valued at US$11.1 billion.

He said the performance reflected the growing contribution of the small-scale mining sector to Ghana’s foreign exchange earnings, adding that the Board remained on course to exceed its 2025 export figures.

Sammy Gyamfi noted that ASM gold exports rose from 63 tonnes in 2024 to approximately 104 tonnes in 2025, surpassing large-scale gold exports for the first time in Ghana’s history.

He added that the sector generated US$10.8 billion in foreign exchange in 2025, helping to support foreign exchange market stability and strengthen the country’s reserves.

According to him, the inflows from ASM gold exports also contributed to the cedi’s 41% appreciation against the US dollar in 2025, with wider benefits for the  economy.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the story is not different this year. In fact, it is better. The GoldBod remains on track to surpassing last year’s outturn. From January 1, 2026, to October 20, 2026, the GoldBod has aggregated and exported 85.4 tonnes of ASM gold valued at US$11.6 billion against total large-scale exports of 76 tonnes worth US$11.1 billion for the 3 same period.

“FX inflows from the ASM sector continues to anchor FX intermediation, support reserve build-up and currency stability,” he said.

He expressed confidence that GoldBod would surpass its 2025 outturn as it continues to aggregate and export gold from the artisanal and small-scale mining sector.
