More than 20 container shops have been destroyed by fire at Kasoa Hightension in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region, with losses estimated at millions of Ghana cedis.
The inferno has left several traders counting their losses after their shops and goods were reduced to ashes.

Some victims and eyewitnesses told Adom News that they noticed smoke coming from one of the shops and immediately contacted the Kasoa Fire Service for assistance.
They alleged, however, that fire officers informed them that their fire tender was out of service.
The eyewitnesses said a subsequent call to the Buduburam Fire Service reportedly yielded a similar response, forcing them to wait for personnel from the Weija Fire Service to arrive and help contain the blaze.
The affected traders are appealing for support to enable them to recover from the losses and rebuild their businesses.

Meanwhile, the Assembly Member for the Kasoa American Town Electoral Area, Shadrach Boakyi Yiadom, has called on President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for the Interior to urgently provide the Kasoa Fire Service with the equipment and resources needed to respond effectively to emergencies.
He said strengthening the fire service would improve response times and help protect lives and property against future fire outbreaks.
