Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren is expected to be named interim coach of the Black Stars ahead of their November double-header against Somalia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, according to reports.

The Swedish tactician is expected to work alongside Godwin Attram and Ibrahim Tanko as Ghana prepare for two crucial fixtures following a disappointing start to their qualifying campaign.

The Black Stars are without a permanent head coach following the departure of Carlos Queiroz after consecutive defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia left Ghana bottom of Group C without a point.

Björkegren is already familiar with the senior men’s team, having joined the Black Stars’ technical staff as an assistant ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup while continuing his role as head coach of the Black Queens.

Appointed in January 2025, the Swedish coach brings extensive experience, having managed clubs in Sweden, China, Cyprus and the United States. He has also won domestic league titles in Sweden and Cyprus.

Attram currently serves as a Black Stars assistant coach, while Tanko is head coach of Medeama and has previously worked with Ghana’s senior national team and the Black Meteors.

The Ghana Football Association has confirmed plans to appoint an interim technical team for the November international window while the search for a substantive head coach continues.

However, the association has yet to officially confirm the reported appointments.

Ghana will face Somalia twice in November, with both matches expected to be played at the Accra Sports Stadium.
