The Circuit Court in Bekwai has sentenced two persons to 20 years imprisonment each for robbery at Edwenase near Jacobu in the Ashanti Region.
The convicts are Emmanuel Adams, 23, a mine worker from Patase, and Vincent Aidoo, alias Kakai, 22, an Okada rider from Afoako.
According to police prosecution, the complainant, Bismark Boafo, a 16-year-old resident of Edwenase, on October 4, 2026, at about 5:00 pm, used his unregistered Haojin motorbike to convey his mother, Madam Amonoo Gyamfua, from Edwenase to Atabrakoso.
After alighting his mother, the two accused persons engaged him to take them to Mile 9, which he obliged.
On reaching the outskirts of Edwenase, Emmanuel Adams intentionally removed his slippers, left it on the road and asked the complainant to stop for Vincent Aidoo to pick it up for him. When the complainant stopped, Adams used an electric shocker to shock him on his neck.
The complainant fell from the motorbike, removed the ignition key and ran for his life into the bush. The two accused persons chased him.
He later returned to the spot and realized his motorbike had been taken away.
On October 5, 2026, he reported the matter to the Jacobu Police together with his father, Kofi Boafo.
Police intelligence led to the arrest of Emmanuel Adams, who mentioned Vincent Aidoo as his accomplice. Vincent was arrested in possession of the motorbike and it was retrieved.
During interrogation, both accused persons admitted the offences in their respective caution statements in the presence of an independent witness.
The police later visited the scene and Emmanuel Adams pointed out the exact place where they attacked the complainant.
The accused persons were charged with Conspiracy to Commit Robbery contrary to Section 23(1) and 149 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) and Robbery contrary to Section 149 of Act 29.
The court, presided over by His Honour Isaac Apeatu, sentenced them to 15 years each on Count One, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, and 20 years each on Count Two, Robbery. The sentences are to run concurrently.
