ADB Ghana Medical Systems Group will provide maintenance services for the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory and Cardiac Interventional Centre at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for one year following the facility’s completion and commissioning in June.
Abraham Fiscian, Project Manager for the cardiac facilities constructed by the company, said the group would respond to equipment and building-related challenges during the maintenance period before the hospital assumes responsibility for subsequent maintenance.
He made this known when Parliament’s Select Committee on Health visited Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to inspect the facility and assess its operational status.
“For the next 12 months, we will be available. We are called at any time there is a physical building challenge or an equipment challenge, they call us up here and then we address whatever the challenge is,” he said.
Mr Fiscian said all construction and installation works on the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory and Cardiac Interventional Centre had been completed, adding that the facility was fully operational.
“Here in Korle Bu, it’s 100% complete,” he said.
He explained that the project involved replacing an existing facility that had been damaged by fire. However, a review of the site revealed that the available space was inadequate, requiring adjustments to the design before the equipment could be supplied and installed.
Mr Fiscian said the company would remain available to address technical challenges during the one-year maintenance period, after which the hospital would be responsible for maintaining both the building and its equipment.
He expressed confidence in the availability of local expertise to manage potential maintenance issues, adding that the company had responded promptly whenever it had been called upon.
“We have all the expertise in the country to handle all these challenges. So we basically do not have a maintenance challenge here,” he said.
The visit formed part of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health’s oversight activities to assess cardiac care infrastructure and the operational readiness of facilities at major teaching hospitals.
The committee is also monitoring the construction of a similar Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory and Cardiac Interventional Centre at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, where the contractor has projected completion by December 2026.
The two facilities are expected to strengthen access to specialised cardiac care and improve the capacity of Ghana’s major teaching hospitals to diagnose and treat heart conditions.
