Stonebwoy’s publicist, Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng, has explained that although the University of Ghana Sports Stadium was the preferred venue for this year’s BHIM Festival, the organisers had to consider other locations to avoid relying on a single option.
Speaking in an interview, Vida said the team sent letters to multiple venues, including the University of Ghana Sports Stadium and the Accra Sports Stadium, as part of its preparations for the annual music festival.
She explained that the decision to approach different venues was a practical move, as the preferred location could have been unavailable on the event date.
“When you have these events coming up, you have tentative venues. And we could have put all our eggs in one basket. What if you had gone to UG Sports Stadium and they told you, ‘Oh, the 24th is booked?’” she said.
According to her, although the team was particularly interested in the University of Ghana Sports Stadium because of the kind of production it intends to deliver this year, it considered alternatives in case the preferred venue could not accommodate the event.
“So even though someone was bent on using the UG Sports Stadium because of the kind of production he wants to do this year, we had to open up the options and try other spaces,” she added.
Vida also clarified that the move to the University of Ghana Sports Stadium should not be interpreted as a permanent departure from the Accra Sports Stadium, where the festival was held last year.
She said BHIM Festival had been staged at different locations over the years, including arenas, parks and the beach, depending on the organisers’ plans for each edition.
“We do not have a permanent venue per se for the event,” she said, adding that the choice of the University of Ghana Sports Stadium for this year’s edition was driven mainly by the experience the organisers want to offer patrons.
The explanation comes as preparations continue for this year’s BHIM Festival, with the organisers looking to deliver a different experience for fans through their choice of venue and production plans.
