Two men have reportedly been caught peeping on female students while they were bathing at Methodist Senior High School, raising concerns about the students’ privacy, safety and protection within the school environment.

The two men, who are alleged to be married, were reportedly caught watching the female students during bathing time. However, the circumstances surrounding the incident, including when it occurred and how the men were discovered, remain unclear.

It is also not yet established whether the men have been arrested, handed over to the police or formally charged in connection with the alleged incident.

The allegation raises questions about the security arrangements around students’ bathing facilities and the measures in place to protect female students from unauthorised observation and other potential violations of their privacy.

    What Ghanaian law says

Ghana’s 1992 Constitution protects human dignity under Article 15 and provides for privacy protections under Article 18(2). These provisions are relevant to discussions about the dignity and privacy of students in circumstances such as bathing.

Depending on the evidence and the precise conduct involved, other provisions of Ghanaian law may also be relevant. For example, the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), as amended, contains provisions addressing sexual offences and indecent assault. The Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038), also criminalises certain forms of non-consensual distribution of intimate images under Section 67.

However, the applicability of any specific offence depends on the facts, and the allegation of peeping alone does not establish which offence, if any, has been committed.

As of publication, no official statement from the school or the police has been provided to confirm the incident or clarify the status of the two men.
