The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to recruit and deploy 6,000 young people as community teaching assistants by November 2026.
The Chief Executive Officer of the YEA, Malik Basintale, disclosed this at the Accountability Series on Wednesday, October 21, explaining that the initiative would provide additional teaching support to basic schools, particularly in hard-to-reach communities.
He said the Community Teaching Assistant Model would engage qualified young people to assist teaching staff while gaining classroom experience, clarifying that the initiative was not intended to replace trained teachers.
“I’m happy to report that, as of September, an MoU has been successfully signed with the Ghana Education Service for the onboarding of 6,000 beneficiaries, whom we hope to recruit and deploy by November this year,” Malik Basintale said.
According to him, the programme formed part of the agency’s broader community-based interventions aimed at creating employment opportunities for young people while addressing specific local development needs.
He added that the interventions were designed to help beneficiaries gain relevant work experience and earn incomes while providing services to their communities.
