A woman has recounted how a TikTok video and promises of a huge sum of money allegedly led her to travel from Accra to Wenchi in the Bono Region, where she was reportedly asked to provide items for rituals before receiving the money.

According to the woman, the man she spoke to gave her assurances that there were no rituals involved in the process.

She claimed the man told her that if she joined the a purported Freemason sect, she would receive a huge sum of money from the elders as startup capital for her business.

“I saw the video on TikTok and decided to call the number to make enquiries. I told him I had my own problems and was looking for solutions, and I did not want to compound my problems, and he told me indeed all my problems will be solved if I join Free Masons,” she said.

The woman indicated that he also told her that members met every four months and were only required to purchase the costume they would wear for the meetings.

“He told me their headquarters was in Wenchi,” she recounted.

Upon arriving in Wenchi, the woman said a man came to pick her up and take her to the meeting place.

She claimed she questioned the man about the association, and he told her that he regularly picked up new members for meetings. He also spoke about the costume members were expected to wear but allegedly said that was all he knew about the religious sect.

However, she said she became suspicious when she realised they were travelling further into a bushy area.

“As we were going, I realised we were going further into a bushy area, and I told the guy who picked me up that my children were tracking my location because I had not told them I was going to Wenchi,” she said.

According to her, the driver subsequently parked in front of a washing bay, got out of the vehicle and made some phone calls before they continued their journey.

When they eventually arrived at the location, she said she met the man she had initially spoken to on the phone, describing him as appearing innocent.

The woman claimed she was subsequently told that she would only receive the promised money after performing certain rituals.

” He told me I will only receive the money if I perform a certain ritual that will require some items including a red candle, sand from the place where I am staying in Accra and three handkerchiefs”, she added.
