Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has called for the law to take its course in the sexual assault allegations involving Zakaria Abdulai, headmaster of Obuasi Senior High and Technical School (SHTS).
She said the allegations required attention because of the potential impact on the lives of those involved, both now and in the future.
Speaking on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the Vice President said she had been following developments surrounding the case, even while away from the country.
“We have all followed what’s going on in our country regarding the case of sexual assault. And I want all of you to be aware that I followed this even when we were away, and I have received some reactions,” she said.
Prof Opoku-Agyemang also said she had taken note of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) action concerning a person who wanted to contest on its ticket, as well as, a letter issued by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua.
She further referenced comments made by the Minister of the Interior during a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting.
However, she stressed that the seriousness of the matter required all parties to allow the appropriate legal processes to take its course.
“What I want to say at this point is that this is a very, very serious matter. It is a matter of concern to all of us, and it is a matter of national concern,” she stated.
“What I want to say is that we all allow the law to take its course, because this is a very serious matter, especially as it affects the lives of people, not only in the present, but also in the future,” she added.
The controversy follows allegations of sexual abuse involving 19 female students of Obuasi SHTS.
The case has attracted public attention, with calls for accountability and appropriate action by the relevant authorities.
The Vice President reiterated her position, urging the public to allow the legal process to proceed.
“So, let’s allow the law to take its course,” she said.
