If critics are looking for a reaction from Sarkodie, the rapper wants them to know they might have to try a little harder.
He sarcastically responded to critics who have labelled him a hypocrite, questioning whether some of those attacking him understand the meaning of the word.
Gracing the studios of Luv FM ahead of his Rapperholic concert in Kumasi, Sarkodie addressed perceptions some Ghanaians have about him, which he says remain irrelevant.
“Sometimes, I see somebody on the radio talking about me so confidently, and everything the person is saying shows they have no idea what they’re talking about. If you don’t find these things funny and you want to react over it that means you’re nowhere in life. Funny enough, the word they keep tagging me with is hypocrisy. It’s always Sarkodie is a hypocrite,” he stated.
According to Sarkodie, he is fed up of hearing that line and has accepted it as part of his brand.
“I want them to change that word in the dictionary and replace it with my face, because I don’t know if Ghanaians forget the meaning of hypocrisy. I realize if a thousand people are saying the same thing, yes, they might have a point on how they see things. But what’s the truth?” he asked.
The rapper also suggested that his visibility and success had made him a target for criticism, arguing that people tend to scrutinise those who rise to prominence and sometimes seek to distract them from their achievements.
Sarkodie further dismissed the idea that online criticism could unsettle him, insisting that responding to every negative comment would be an unnecessary burden.
“Honestly, banter would be impossible to do. The truth of the matter is that you making the comment is irrelevant to me. Looking at their state and position, to even respond to such people will be a pain. To even get rattled by someone’s comment would be a pain to me. I could have sleepless night if I am in a least bothered by trolls. It can never happen.”
