A communication team member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Daniel Nortey, has come under severe criticism for openly defending former Obuasi Senior High School (SHS) headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai, over allegations of sexual misconduct.
In a viral video from a panel discussion on ATV, sighted by GhanaWeb on October 21, 2026, Nortey argued that there was nothing wrong with his fellow party member being described as a rapist.
According to him, such acts were not new, suggesting that people had engaged in similar despicable behaviours in isolated incidents.
“He’s a rapist, and so what? Haven’t you done that before? Is today the first time someone is raping someone?” he remarked.
He then turned his attention to another panelist, asking, “Haven’t you also raped someone before?”.
His comment appeared to draw opposition from his counterpart, a communicator of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The two went back and forth during the discussion, while the host remained silent and did not intervene as the exchanges continued in the studio.
The former Obuasi SHS headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai, has been accused of sexually assaulting and engaging in sexual relationships with several female students.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has since interdicted him and handed him over to the police for investigation.
The embattled headmaster, who also serves as the NDC’s General Secretary in the Juaben Constituency of the Ashanti Region, was reportedly compelled to resign and was barred from contesting the party’s upcoming constituency chairmanship election following the allegations.
