The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has pledged that allegations of sexual misconduct involving the suspended headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, will be pursued to ensure accountability.
He has assured the public that the case will not be allowed to lose momentum as public attention shifts to other issues, insisting that the government remains committed to ensuring that the matter is handled in accordance with the law.
Speaking to the media on Monday, October 26, Iddrisu said the investigation would not be abandoned after the initial wave of public outrage, as has often happened with other high-profile cases.
“Amidst calls from various sections of society for a full-scale investigation of similar malpractices in other educational institutions in the country, this scandal won’t suffer the same fate as other burning issues which are normally discussed with gusto in the media over a period and then go out with a whimper,” he said.
He stressed that all parties involved must respect due process and allow the law to take its course, warning against actions that could undermine the investigation.
“That won’t happen in respect of this matter, but due process will be followed and observed. So all parties must respect due process and all parties must uphold the tenets and values and let the law take its course,” he added.
The minister’s assurance comes amid growing public concern over allegations of sexual misconduct involving the suspended headmaster and some female students of the school.
The case has triggered calls for a thorough investigation and appropriate action against anyone found culpable, alongside renewed demands for stronger measures to protect students from abuse in educational institutions.
