Real Madrid forward, Kylian Mbappé, is facing controversy in China.
According to Spanish media, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV has suspended its coverage of all LaLiga matches.
The controversy stems from a video on The Bridge in which Mbappé jokes about an edited image portraying him as Mao Zedong, referring to a “Chinese dictator” without directly naming him.
It is now being claimed that this could affect LaLiga’s television rights.
The Spanish topflight has spent the last decade positioning China as one of its most important strategic markets.
This development comes a day after Mbappé lost out on the 2026 Ballon d’Or to Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane.
A day before the ceremony, Mbappé scored a brace as Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 in the Nou Camp.
