All People’s Congress (APC) founder Hassan Ayariga has described the Finance Minister as the most powerful person in Ghana, alleging that even President John Mahama and Cabinet members cannot challenge his authority.
Ayariga warned that the situation was bad for the country, arguing that the minister’s alleged control over government affairs could undermine the administration.
“Maybe the President and the Cabinet do not see it the way I am telling you today. This Finance Minister is the number two in Ghana. He’s the most powerful man in Ghana,” he said.
“He has become a governor general. Can’t even be touched by the President. Can’t even be touched by the Cabinet. No. And that is bad for our country,” he added.
Asked why he was certain about his claims, Ayariga said his experience as a politician and businessman informed his position.
He also warned that the NDC could lose the 2028 general election if the situation persisted, accusing the Finance Minister of seeking to control everything within the government.
“If they don’t sit up, they are going to lose power in 2028. Nothing can save them. They are going to self-destruction. They will destroy their own government,” he said on Metro TV.
Ayariga argued that government officials were colleagues who should work together, rather than allow one minister to dominate decision-making.
