The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), with support from the Ghana Police Service, has shut down an unlicensed production facility linked to Unni Associates Company Limited, producers of Arcan Bitters, at Senfi Bekwai in the Ashanti Region.
The operation followed reports that the company continued producing the alcoholic beverage despite an earlier FDA directive ordering it to cease operations.
During the enforcement exercise, officials detained 1,580 cartons of finished products, 5,000 empty bottles and 23 barrels of bulk alcohol found at the facility.
The action forms part of the FDA’s efforts to clamp down on unlicensed production and enforce regulatory requirements governing the manufacture of products intended for public consumption.

The continued production allegedly recorded after the earlier shutdown directive prompted the latest intervention, with the authority receiving support from the police to carry out the operation.
The FDA has reiterated its commitment to enforcing regulatory compliance, stressing the importance of safeguarding public health and safety.
The authority’s action also serves as a warning to businesses operating in the food and beverage sector that regulatory directives must be obeyed.
The FDA has not provided further details on possible sanctions against Unni Associates Company Limited or the next steps regarding the detained products.
