FC AshantiGold 04 Chief Executive Officer Edward Kwasi Akuoko says poor away form and reports of strained relations within the technical team contributed to the dismissal of head coach Karim Zito.
The Ghana Premier League club announced on Tuesday, 27 October, that Zito, assistant coach Ernest Okyere and goalkeepers’ trainer Robert Dabuo had been relieved of their duties with immediate effect.
AshantiGold added that an interim technical team would take charge until a new head coach is appointed.
Explaining the decision, Akuoko said the club’s management expected more consistent results despite their status as a newly promoted side.

“As a serious club, you always want to win. I’m not a leader who always lowers expectations just because we are a newly promoted side,” he told Kumasi-based Obaapa Radio.
“We are not saying we have to win the league at all costs, but we simply want consistent results. Our away performances have been poor.”
Akuoko also revealed that he had received reports of disagreements among members of the technical team, which he believed could have affected the club’s performances.
“The second reason is that, personally, I received reports that the technical team led by Karim Zito were not on good terms, and that could be affecting our results,” he added.
AshantiGold have endured an inconsistent start to the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season, recording three wins, three defeats and two draws in their opening eight matches.
The club sit 10th in the league table with 11 points, having struggled to establish consistency in their return to the top flight.
Their next assignment is an away fixture against Swedru All Blacks in Matchday Nine on Sunday at the Swedru Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00 GMT.
