The Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, Tony Goodman, has assured Ghanaians that the country has the personnel and resources needed to manage Ebola cases, urging the public to remain calm and promptly report symptoms associated with the disease to health facilities.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, October 21, he urged the public to remain vigilant without giving in to fear, stressing the importance of early reporting to enable health professionals to assess suspected cases.

“I want to allay the fears of Ghanaians. Let’s not trigger the panic button too early,” he said.

Mr Goodman urged the public to watch out for symptoms such as fever, body pains, headaches, vomiting and vomiting blood, and to report anyone exhibiting such signs to a hospital or clinic for further assessment.

“These are some of the things you quickly have to report to these hospitals for them to do a follow-up. It’s not time for us to panic. We have the personnel, we have the resources to take care of these cases in Ghana,” he added.

His comments follow confirmation of an imported case of Ebola Bundibugyo virus disease in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, where 44 contacts have been identified and placed under monitoring.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, October 20, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said the infected patient was a woman with a recent travel history to Uganda. She is currently in isolation and receiving medical care.

According to Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the woman began experiencing symptoms on October 7 and sought treatment at a private health facility in Abuja on October 11. Laboratory tests confirmed the infection on October 20.

Nigeria is the fifth country to detect the virus since an outbreak was declared in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on May 15, 2026.
