The Kwabenya Circuit Court, which is hearing the criminal case against six persons accused of involvement in the shipment of 3.9 tonnes of cocaine to France, has adjourned proceedings to November 5 to hear an application seeking to strike the name of the sixth accused person from the charge sheet.

The sixth accused, Helena Akua Denkyi, has been identified by the police as a contract staff member of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

She is charged alongside the other five accused persons with abetment of crime, specifically the exportation of narcotic drugs.

Denkyi and three others identified as GRA staff are accused of scanning the container carrying the cocaine, identifying its contents as suspicious, but failing to flag it for further action.

At Tuesday’s hearing, her lawyers informed the court that an application seeking to strike her name from the charge sheet had been filed on September 30 and served on the prosecution, which was yet to file an affidavit in opposition.

It emerged, however, that the court had not been notified of the application since it was filed.

The judge subsequently adjourned the case to November 5 for the application to be moved.

French customs authorities seized nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine at the northern French port of Dunkirk on September 10, 2026.

The cocaine, estimated to have a street value of €225 million, was concealed in a container carrying plastic waste which had arrived from Ghana. Part of the consignment was reportedly destined for Antwerp, Belgium.

Following the seizure, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) announced the arrest of three suspects in Ghana over their alleged involvement in the shipment.

NACOC said the suspects were alleged to have represented and facilitated the activities of Dutch fugitive Jos Leijdekkers, popularly known as “Bolle Jos”, in Ghana.

President John Dramani Mahama has received a preliminary report on investigations into the shipment of cocaine from Ghana, following the seizure of a consignment worth more than $200 million in France.

Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Anthony Sarpong, disclosed this when he appeared before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
