A Nigerian nurse has recounted how a woman who complained of pain at her Caesarean section (C-section) wound pushed her hand away during an examination and asked when the doctor would arrive.
In a post shared on X, the nurse, identified as Iremide, said the woman arrived at the health facility with her husband and resisted her attempt to examine her abdomen despite her name and professional designation being displayed on her scrubs.
According to her, the nurse assisting her intervened by asking the patient whether the person standing before her was a pastor, prompting the woman to remain silent and cooperate with the examination.
“I’ll never forget the day a woman came in with her husband, complaining of pain at her C-section wound. As I tried to examine her abdomen, she pushed my hand away and asked when the doctor was coming,” she recounted.
“Mind you, my name was on my scrubs. The nurse assisting me immediately asked, ‘So the person standing in front of you is a pastor?’ Silence. Then cooperation,” she added.
Iremide used the experience to highlight what she described as the rude treatment some healthcare workers receive from patients.
“If you haven’t worked in healthcare you will never know how rude and stupid people are,” she wrote.
