A female student who was allegedly a victim of sexual misconduct by the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Zakaria Abdulai, has opened up about her ordeal.

A snippet of a yet-to-be-released video shared by JoyNews shows at least two female students recounting how they were allegedly forced into sexual acts by the headmaster.

One of the female students said the headmaster forcibly removed her underpants to check whether she was menstruating after she told him she was on her period.

She added that he allegedly slapped her and coerced her into the sexual act.

“He pushed me onto the sofa and took off his underwear. When I told him I was menstruating, he put his hand into my pant to check if it was true. When I said no, he slapped me and held my head, so I agreed to do it,” the student said.

Another student described how she was allegedly forced into sexual activity after struggling with the headmaster.

“We struggled and he took off my shirt to have sex with me. After that, he dragged me into his bedroom and had sex with me again,” she said.

Following the allegations, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has ordered the headmaster to step aside pending investigations.

The Ministry in a statement issued on Monday, October 12, 2026, said the minister had also asked the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters of the Ghana Police Service to investigate the allegations.

The Ministry of Education said the allegations were serious, stressing that teachers were expected to protect students placed in their care.

“Parents and Guardians have entrusted their wards in the care of teachers whose responsibilities are to protect and safeguard the children and not abuse them,” the statement, signed by the ministry’s Press Secretary, Hashmin Mohammed, said.

The Ministry added that it and the GES would not tolerate alleged misconduct of this nature in educational institutions.

“When I said no, he slapped me and held my head, so I agreed to do it.”

Survivors recount an alleged sexual assault and describe the ordeal they say they suffered inside the headmaster’s bungalow.
