A heated debate has started in Ghana after a Ghanaian lawyer, Mary Ohenewaa Afful, fired back at media personality Serwaa Amihere over her advice to young women.

Serwaa Amihere recently told young women to stop buying fake designer bags, wigs, shoes and other products. Her advice was simple — work hard, build your life, and one day you will be able to afford the original.

Many people agreed with her, but not everyone.

Mary Ohenewaa Afful has questioned Serwaa’s advice in a hard-hitting response.

According to her, how can Serwaa tell ordinary Ghanaian women not to wear fake products when she herself is allegedly wearing fake body parts?

“How can you tell ordinary Ghanaian women to buy original products while wearing fake buttocks?” Mary asked.

Her comment was direct and has since gone viral.

Mary argues that most young Ghanaian women are struggling. Jobs are hard to find, salaries are low, and the cost of living is high. For many, buying a fake bag or a cheaper wig is not about showing off — it is about survival and looking good with the little they have.

She believes it is unfair to shame women for buying affordable versions of expensive products while society celebrates expensive body enhancements.

The clash has divided social media.

Some people support Serwaa, saying young women should focus on hard work and stop living fake lives to impress people.

Others support Mary, saying Serwaa has no right to judge women for buying fake bags when beauty standards today are also full of fake bodies, fake hips and fake everything.

The debate has now moved beyond bags and wigs. It is about real life in Ghana — fake products, fake beauty standards, and the pressure on ordinary young women to look rich when they are just trying to survive.
