The Board of Directors of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), led by its Chairman, John Asiedu Nketiah, has inspected ongoing infrastructure projects at the Port of Tema to assess their progress and potential impact on operations.
The inspection focused on completed dredging works and the rehabilitation of the port’s breakwaters, which are expected to improve efficiency and enhance the facility’s capacity to handle larger vessels.
As part of the dredging project, selected berths have been deepened from 11 metres to 14 metres, enabling bigger vessels to berth at the port.
GPHA’s General Manager of Engineering, Ing. Komla Ofori, briefed the Board on the scope and progress of the projects during the visit.
Speaking to the media after the inspection, Mr Asiedu Nketiah expressed satisfaction with the completed dredging works and the progress of the breakwater rehabilitation, particularly the advanced technology being used.
He said the breakwater project was progressing according to schedule and was expected to be completed and handed over within a month.
The Director-General of GPHA, Major General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, said he was confident the completion of the projects would strengthen the Authority’s operational and commercial prospects.
He explained that the improved infrastructure would enable larger vessels to berth safely at the Port of Tema, potentially enhancing its capacity to serve the maritime industry.
The breakwater rehabilitation project is being undertaken by GYTD Group Limited.
