The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has disclosed that 38 teachers at Obuasi Senior High Technical School were targeted for transfer after speaking out about sexual misconduct allegations involving the school’s headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai.
NAGRAT President Jacob Anaba said the teachers were directed to leave the school in September 2026, following the emergence of allegations reportedly dating back to 2025.
Speaking on Citi Prime News on Tuesday, October 20, Mr Anaba said the directive was communicated through the assistant headmaster, who indicated that it had come from the District Director. He added that no reasons were given for the proposed transfers.
According to him, some of the affected teachers had criticised the handling of the allegations, while others had raised concerns publicly.
“The Assistant Headmaster was asked to tell 38 teachers to transfer because they were being vocal,” he said.
Mr Anaba also questioned the circumstances under which a committee reportedly chaired by the District Director exonerated the headmaster, particularly as complaints had allegedly been raised by students and parents before the matter became public in August 2026.
Meanwhile, Mr Abdulai has resigned as the Juaben Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and withdrawn his candidature for the constituency chairmanship position amid the allegations involving female students.
In a letter announcing his decision, Mr Abdulai said both his resignation and withdrawal from the contest took immediate effect.
The development comes amid growing public scrutiny of the allegations, which have prompted investigations by the Ghana Education Service (GES) and a referral to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
