The Federation of Ghana Traders has called on government to urgently call commercial drivers to order over what it describes as vigilante actions in removing traders and hawkers from bus stops across the country.
In a press statement signed by its Founder, Mr. Takyi Addo, and dated October 19, 2025, the Federation expressed concern over the conduct of some commercial drivers in the wake of the implementation of Traffitech-GH.
According to the statement, while the Federation supports the introduction of Traffitech, its successful implementation requires cooperation, discipline and shared commitment from all stakeholders to ensure that commercial activities and movement of goods and services are not unnecessarily disrupted.
“The Federation believes that the successful implementation of Traffitech requires cooperation, discipline and a shared commitment from all stakeholders to ensure that its introduction does not unnecessarily disrupt commercial activities and the movement of goods and services,” the statement said.
The Federation urged government to as a matter of urgency engage commercial drivers and their leadership to address their concerns, promote compliance and ensure that the process is carried out in an orderly manner.
It further stressed that it is unlawful for commercial drivers to take the law into their own hands by forcibly removing traders from bus stops, noting that such action is the sole responsibility of local government authorities.
“It will be unlawful for commercial drivers to embark on vigilante acts of removing traders from the bus stops, stating that this is the work of the local government authorities,” the statement emphasized.
The Federation also called for effective communication and coordination among relevant authorities, transport operators and the trading community to prevent avoidable disruptions that could affect businesses, traders and consumers.
